I don’t know what was more frustrating to watch in Game 2, our dull fans or our dull offence.

After an exciting series win over the New York Yankees, the Toronto Blue Jays (in all aspects) have fallen a part against Seattle. But something needs to be said about the fans. It’s one thing to be loud, but it’s another to rattle an opponent.
It was easy to be loud in the Yankees series, because the Blue Jays bats did all the rattling, but this series the fans have sucked. There is a clear difference in fans from 2015/2016 to today and it’s a perfect example of what happens when you price out the hardcore baseball fans with casuals who have money seeking an experience. Since the Bautista bat flip, everyone in Toronto has been clamouring to get tickets to go to a playoff game to recapture that energy, but not everyone should if you don’t know ball. We have gone from hostile & vicious , to just dumb & loud and it’s so embarrassing.
Example 1: You have Gilbert on the ropes in the 2nd & 3rd inning and NO ONE is on him. No heckling, no rattling, no “GILLLBBERRRRRTTTT” chants. Did fans forget how to be fans? In 2015, we were on Hamels & Cueto. In 2016 we were on Tillman & Kluber. And even in 2021 against the same Mariners we were on Robbie Ray. We were on those guys from 1st pitch. But 2025? nothing. Casuals. Just noise, nothing directed to key players, nothing to rattle anyone.
Example 2: You’re getting loud on a full count, with our guys at the plate (great)! Pitcher steps off because he can’t hear pitchcom, and then you ‘Boo’ and go silent. Thats exactly what he wanted!! Thats when you’re supposed to get fucking louder! Smarten up.
Example 3: Away bullpen is warming up. I don’t see any chirps going. I don’t see any fans leaning over to yell at the pitchers. This used to be common place years ago even before the renovations. Rogers built those bullpens to be intimidating. Shapiro even made reference to that when they unveiled all the new renovations. But what do we see? Well mannered fans, sitting politely and kids with “Springer Dinger” signs.
Jays fans didn’t all go soft. The hardcores who created those moments we rewatch on YouTube have just been replaced and priced out. We see it in Toronto with the Leafs and we’ve seen it with the Raptors. The real ball knowers are at home and the experience wannabes are in the stands. Gone are the days of beer throwing, curse word hurling, savage fans all throughout the stadium, that almost gave Rogers Centre a European Football feel in October. Now we’re just “loud”….dumb and loud.
